Jigs voted best bait by our Pro Staff
We conducted a recent poll among the Connect Outdoor Pro Staff asking for their favorite type of bait, both live and artificial.
The best overall bait was the Jig. It received the most votes in our poll and took the top spot with 21.1 percent choosing the jig.
Some of the more popular brands among our staff include the Phenix Baits/ Glimmer Blue Craw, the Wicked Weights Tungsten Jig, and black and purple Shinbone Ridge.
Three types of baits tied for third with worms, topwater, and dropshot all receiving 15.8 percent of the vote. Some of the more popular brands included Gary Yamamoto/Green Pumpkin for worms;
missile baits/Green Pumpkin for dropshot;
and River2Sea Whopper Plopper/Bone and Heddon Zara Spook for Topwater.
The remaining baits all received 5.3 percent of the vote. In no particular order they were, wacky senko, swimbait, soft bait – creature, soft bait – craw, ned rig, and frogs/toads.
We also asked our Pro Staff to rate the best live bait. Nightcrawlers easily beat out the competition with 44.4 percent of the vote. Shad came in second place with 16.7 percent of the vote. Not using live baits at all came in second with 16.7 percent of the vote.
Crayfish came in fourth with 11.1 percent of the vote. Leaches and shiners tied for fifth place with each receiving 5.6 percent of the vote.
